Credit Suisse denies wrong doing after data leak

Credit Suisse

The bank Credit Suisse is strongly denying wrongdoing after details were leaked of 18,000 accounts which suggest they’re being used for money laundering, drug and people trafficking.

The accounts hold around CHF 100bn and some of them were opened in the 1940s.

Journalists and investigators have been examining the data for around a year before publishing their findings.

The details have been printed in major papers such as the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the New York Times and the Guardian.

Credit Suisse is rejecting the allegations and says many of the issues are historical and have been taken out of context. It says 90% of the accounts mentioned in the press were closed before 2015 or were already in the process of being closed before the press enquiries started.
