Cornavin running normally - except for track numbers

Cornavin Station

Trains are running normally from Cornavin this morning after the station was closed to all traffic over the weekend.

More than 500 people worked to replace a major piece of signalling equipment – Swiss Federal Railways says the Geneva system is now the biggest and most advanced in the country.

Replacement buses were being used to ferry passengers either to their destination or Coppet where some trains were available.

The work was needed to prepare the station for its expansion – but it’s been a long time in the planning.

For the last four years, a new tunnel was dug under the tracks to handle cabling.

But regular commuters need to have their wits about them today – some platforms have changed numbers and services have changed what track they run from.
