Climate change slowing Earth

Research by the ETH in Zurich says climate change is making the day longer.

Melting polar ice, which is filling the oceans, is slowing the rotation of the earth. 

The findings have been published in the journal of the US National Academy of Sciences, Proceedings

But you don’t need to adjust your calendar yet – the effect is estimated at 1.3 milliseconds a century. 

The moon, and the tides it causes, is slowing the planet by 2.4 milliseconds a century.
