The rock slide which caused the evacuation of the of the village of Brienz in canton Graubünden is moving faster than ever, but authorities say there’s no danger this time.
Geologists installed a monitoring device at the base of the fall and it’s measuring a downhill movement of 2 metres a year – the fastest since last year.
The main reason is the recent heavy rainfall – but as summer approaches, it’s hoped the situation will improve.
A 2km long drainage tunnel is currently being built, at a cost of CHF 40m. It won’t be finished until 2027.
