US president Joe Biden will be arriving in Geneva later today ahead of his meeting with the Russian president Vladimir Putin tomorrow.

Security around the city is now at its highest alert with road closures and areas around the Parc des Eaux-Vives sealed off as the two men will be holding their face-to-face meeting at the Villa La Grange in the middle of the park.

Thousands of journalists have descended on the city. The Geneva International Conference Center is the main point for correspondents where writers and broadcasters collect their passes to allow them closer access.

Biden will be travelling with the Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

He will be meeting the Swiss president Guy Parmelin and the foreign minister Ignazio Cassis later today. They’ll be discussing economic relations and closer cooperation on education and research.

They’ll also talk about Iran as Switzerland looks after US diplomatic interests in Tehran, and has done so since the Islamic revolution.

Biden will be arriving on Air Force One at around 2.30 this afternoon.
