The federal government says it wants to cut the amount of Russian produced oil and gas the country uses and has been talking to authorities in the Netherlands about increasing cooperation at ports about importing more sources of energy.

The environment minister, Simonetta Sommaruga, is on a visit to Rotterdam to discuss how the Dutch port and the port at Basel can work together to import oil, gas and hydrogen.

The government says both countries want to reduce their dependence on Russia and boost renewable energy. They will also work together on capturing and storing CO2 from the atmosphere.
