The international human rights group, Amnesty International, which is dealing with the Ukraine war and the situation in Gaza – has time to also criticise Switzerland.
This country’s newly formed National Human Rights Institution is being singled out as it hasn’t a mandate to receive complaints.
Amnesty also says the fact a permit is needed to hold a demonstration is unacceptable and peaceful gatherings can be violently dispersed.
It also points out the UN Committee against Torture – which reviewed Switzerland – called for a rapid change in the law to bring in the offence of torture. That hasn’t happened.
Amnesty says there needs to be progress on an independent mechanism to investigate allegations of police violence.
