With Covid numbers off the charts, the winter blues are especially challenging this year. If you still haven’t caught Omicron and are trying to stay socially distanced, The Lausanne Guide have some great suggestions to head to the mountains, without breaking the bank.
They tasked adventure contributors Nicola Reinle and Marc Petterson with coming up with suggestions for taking advantage of the season outdoors.
Nicola compiled a list of the most affordable ski resorts in Suisse Romande – did you know that you can ski for as cheap as 20 CHF a day? – at Les Roches de Nayes above Montreux. The piste map is small, but the views over the lake are incredible. If you want to arrive by train, you can book a train + ski ticket for 35 chf from the Montreux train station.
Marc wanted to offer some suggestions to skiers and non-skiers alike – sledding and showshoeing adventures that you can combine with a traditional meal. Cheese and snow – it doesn’t get better than that!
The one Sarah's most looking forward to trying is at les Pléiades just above Vevey. In addition to the usual sledding and snowshoeing, there is a magical event taking place every Saturday in January and February. The “Chemin de Lanternes” is an evening snowshoe walk along a lantern-lit path, followed by a fondue. Book the full package in advance, which includes a train ticket for the MOB train from the Vevey station, snowshoes, and dinner.
