Swiss government 'concerned' at events in Washington

The Swiss Foreign Ministry says it is concerned about the recent events in Washington DC and it’s dismayed at the deaths involved.

The president, Guy Parmelin, says the government has faith in the strength of US institutions and trusts there will be a transfer of power later this month.

He tweeted that ‘American democracy is valuable in Switzerland as we share the same values.’

The foreign minister, Ignazio Cassis, condemned the violence saying ‘freedom, democracy and national cohesion are vital.
