A study by a group of Swiss doctors suggest Covid suffers will be left with permanent lung damage, sometimes by as much as 25%.

The results have been described as ‘frightening’.

Negative long-term effects are even being found in those who only suffered a mild bout of the disease.

The study is being conducted by lung specialists across the country.

One of the lead researchers, Thomas Geiser, from the University Hospital in Bern, says there are hopes lung capacity in sufferers will improve a bit over time – but in many cases the infection leaves scars which will not get better.
