National News // Sept. 30, 2020

Canton Zurich is under fire for possibility breaking the law on the free movement of EU nationals by refusing permits to sex-workers in the canton.

Authorities say it’s for reasons of public health during the pandemic, but that’s disputed by a lawyer represented one sex-worker. Valetin Landmann says there’s not a single case of confirmed Covid transmission from the erotic club scene.

There are no federal restrictions on EU nationals being issued a work permit due to the pandemic.

Zurich is the only canton which is treating sex-workers differently from others.

Support groups for the sex industry say if permits aren’t being issued, then workers will move underground – which will be more dangerous.
