US drug firm sets up European HQ in Basel
The US pharmaceutical company Moderna is setting up its European HQ in Basel.
The Boston based company hopes to be one of the first to have a vaccine for Covid-19.
The Swiss office is now recruiting specialists to drive manufacturing as well as making sure it complies with regulations and will be reimbursed by insurance companies.
Moderna is already manufacturing the vaccine on hopes it will pass testing. For Europe it has signed deals with the drug manufacturer Lonza in Visp in canton Valais.
The Swiss government has earmarked CHF 300m for vaccines.
Moderna hopes the drug will be ready to distribute by the end of the year – or January at the latest.
