Foreign ministry condemns Russia poisoning attack
The Swiss foreign ministry is joining other western nations and calling on Russia to investigate the poisoning of the opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
The ministry adds such an investigation could also involve the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
Navalny is currently in a hospital in Berlin. German doctors say he has been poisoned with the nerve agent Novichock – the same compound used against Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the UK two years ago.
The foreign ministry says it condemns the poisoning against the opposition figure who’s fighting for an independent justice system and against corruption in his home country.
Several countries are calling for sanctions against Russia following the attack. The Russian government says the accusations are unfounded.
