More students will be going to university this year than ever before – because of Covid-19.

The reason is that fewer school leavers will be taking a gap year, as international travel is difficult.

Swiss universities say they’re ready to welcome between 10 to 15% more students.

Many graduates are also choosing to stay on for a Masters degree as jobs are hard to come by. Zurich University told Swissinfo it has 25% more applications for a Masters this year.

Despite more students, universities still have to adhere to social distancing rules. Many will be offering an online alternative.
