An elderly woman in Zurich escaped being ripped off by scammers who pretended to be local police officers.

She told the Blick newspaper the supposed officers spoke high German – as she points out, all Zurich officers speak the local dialect.  

But others may not have been so lucky. 

The scammers claim to be police and warn of burglaries and say they can secure valuables at the police station. 

It’s thought the scammers have already made over a million francs this year alone. Most victims are over 67. 

The police say they will never phone and ask where you hide your valuables or ask about personal financial details.
