Two thirds of fines for things like parking tickets or speeding penalties were left unpaid last year.

Officials told the Bund Newspaper CHF 70,000 francs were lost in 2019 - as foreign diplomats take advantage of immunity status while living in Switzerland.

In some cases, details are now being passed on to the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs - which uses diplomatic channels to try and retrieve the money - often with quite successful results.

However, unlike in other countries which name and shame - the department wouldn’t disclose which countries are the worst offenders.
