Former Harbour Master hailed as hero after reacting to boat fire
A former Harbour Master in Ascona is being hailed as a hero after he intervened when a motor boat caught fire yesterday.
The vessel was hit by lightning, which struck the boat’s onboard electrics causing a a loud bang.
Dario Ferrari from Ticino saw smoke billowing into the sky and reacted quickly, approaching in his rubber dingy and calling the fire brigade.
He told the Blick newspaper: “In the harbor, the boats are close together. Due to the wind, the fire could have spread quickly to the other decks”.
It took around 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
