Calls for Spain to be placed on quarantine list as infection rates spike
There are calls for those returning to Switzerland from holidaying in Spain to be put in quarantine.
Following a spike in Covid-19 cases in popular destinations in Spain, the country is now within the range considered ‘high risk’ by the Federal Office for Public Health.
Politicians from across the different parties have expressed alarm and are now calling for quarantine measures to be taken.
It would be a huge blow to Swiss holiday makers, as in a normal year hundreds of thousands travel to Spain during the summer months.
A spokesman for the health ministry says the list is updated every month but can be adjusted if the situation in a country deteriorates rapidly.
In Switzerland, yesterday saw 66 new daily cases reported - a relatively low number after figures were consistently above 100 last week - but there can often be a lag in reporting after a weekend.
