Geneva opens pandemic-friendly fair today
There will be a taste of summer around Lake Geneva, despite the cancellation of the annual firework display back in April.
A fair will open from 4pm this afternoon. But there will be strict anti-infection measures in place.
The attractions will be regularly disinfected and extra security will be on hand to make sure the crowds don’t get too big or too close together.
Masks will not be compulsory as it is outdoors. But the Cantonal Department of Sport says the rules can change at short notice.
In the meantime, fears of the virus are not keeping the crowds away from the lake. But cantonal authorities are relaxed.
The health department says people tend to maintain social distancing on the lake side, pointing out you don’t place your towel too close to your neighbour in normal times anyway.
A spokesman says nightclubs remain the main concern.
