Federal Health Office calls on cantons to be stricter following infections rise
The Federal Health Office is calling on cantons to strengthen their controls on social distancing measures in public buildings. Officials believe the level of compliance varies too much between the different regions.
Leisure and recreation areas are under particular scrutiny.
Some cantons, such as Bern and Basel, say they will make sure the rules are being followed.
In Geneva, it will be compulsory to wear a mask in shops from tomorrow at 8am.
It’s already the law for workers in bars, restaurants and nightclubs to wear masks.
Shops are being given a little leeway to make sure they can comply. Staff will also have to wear masks, unless they’re working behind a screen.
The new measures were announced on Friday afternoon after the number of cases in the canton jumped to 46 – after several days of around 30 new infections.
