Calls for frontalier workers to continue working from home
There are calls to allow frontalier workers to continue working from home until the end of the year.
French parliamentarians and cross-border workers groups say the danger of infection remains too high – and fewer people on the roads will cut jams and pollution.
Currently France has agreed those working in Switzerland can work from home but that runs out next month. The law is clear: workers living in France have to be at work in Switzerland to be eligible to pay Swiss social security charges, which are lower than French charges.
In canton Geneva alone, 87,000 people crossed the border to work in pre-pandemic days.
But the head of Federation of Romandie Companies, Blaise Matthey, says current regulations are unsuitable for the new reality of teleworking.
