Nyon fights anti-social behaviour with young volunteers
The city of Nyon, in canton Vaud, is fighting an upsurge in anti-social behaviour by using young volunteers to try to persuade people not to litter and keep the noise down.
Due to the pandemic restrictions, groups of young adults are meeting along the lake side. They’re craving activities because of the cancellation of festivals and sporting events.
This is leading to complaints of rubbish being left behind and noise. The police say there’s increased drug use and alcohol-fueled fights.
But pairs of young volunteers are being trained to intervene to highlight the impact of the gatherings, and hand out water, cereal bars and condoms.
