2-seater electric plane to fly in Switzerland
Switzerland has for the first time authorized an electric-powered plane to take to the skies.
The Federal Aviation Office has given the go ahead to a small Slovenian-made 2-seater plane called Velis Electro.
The licence is being issued as a special case and will only allow the plane to fly within Switzerland.
Currently the EU is not issuing licences for electric planes – but the rules are due to change in 2022.
