President admits mask-wearing rules too late as infection rate climbs
The government is rejecting criticisms from some quarters that the lockdown has been ended too early, as the infection rate climbs.
Yesterday there were 70 new infections reported, down from the previous days, but the weekends do tend to show lower numbers as not all cantons supply complete figures during the days off.
Tests are still averaging around 10,000 a day.
The head of the Covid-19 working group, Matthias Egger, says the trend remains on the up and he believes that the number of daily cases will be at 200 by the end of this week and 400 the week after.
The president, Simonetta Sommaruga, says a balance between freedom and prudence still needs to be found – and admits rules on mask-wearing should have been brought in earlier.
