Defence minister accused of using female pilot to win campaign for new planes
The defence minister, Viola Amherd, is being accused of a cheap PR trick as she invited Switzerland’s only female fighter pilot to join her in a campaign for a ‘yes’ vote in September’s referendum on buying new planes.
29-year-old Fanny Chollet sat next to the minister at a press conference – she normally sits in an F/A 18.
Socialist Party MP Priska Seiler Graf says using Chollet is a stunt and not representative, as all the other pilots are men.
Voters will be asked if the government should spend CHF 6bn on new planes on September 27th.
