Swiss able to shop in France as borders open
The borders are open again today. For the first time since mid-March, it’s now possible to travel into a neighboring country to see friends, family – and for many, to go shopping.
In Geneva, local food stores and supermarkets have seen their sales grow since the border closures, as Swiss shoppers were unable to enter France.
The head of the Geneva agricultural production office points out in April their members’ stores had 45,000 visitors - normally the number is less than half that.
Geneva producers say they hope to be able to keep some of those new customers despite the border openings.
