Direct democracy to recommence in September with extensive list to vote on
Direct democracy has also been on hold during the lockdown – so voters will have an extensive list to vote on in September.
The Federal Council says it accepts there will be many issues to vote on at the same time – but believes it’s acceptable.
The main federal votes will be on stopping the free movement of labour with the EU – if it passes it would threaten the country’s relationship with the bloc.
Also, voters will be choosing on whether to offer two-week paternity leave, cutting tax for parents, whether the country should buy new fighter jets at a cost of CHF 6bn and make changes to the hunting law.
All the issues – together with many local votes – will be held on September 27th.
