Swiss families who refuse to send their primary aged children back to school in May risk being fined thousands of francs.
Teachers are calling for protective measures to be in place before the re-opening of primary schools on May 11.
Some parents say they will refuse to allow their kids back into the classroom, for fear they may contract or spread the coronavirus.
Fines vary from canton to canton - but could amount to large sums.
The LCH, an umbrella trade union for teachers in Switzerland, is demanding nationwide solutions for protecting both staff and children.
The organisation’s website calls for the “orderly resumption” of classroom activity and has asked the government to clarify their plans.
Teachers belonging to “at risk” health groups are also concerned.
