Cantons pressure government to reopen all businesses over lockdown fatigue
Canton Aargau is asking the federal government to move faster to end the lockdown – amid signs the population is beginning to tire of being shut up at home.
In a letter sent to Bern, the cantonal government is calling for all shops to be allowed to open from Monday – not just the select businesses so far allowed.
It’s also calling for a firm date for bars and restaurants to be opened and events to be able to take place.
Other cantons are also expressing frustration and want a faster end to the lockdown. Canton Sankt Gallen and the Swiss People’s Party says bars and restaurants should be allowed to reopen next month.
At the same time, police forces around the country are saying more people are going out and expressing lockdown fatigue. Zurich cantonal police issued a statement saying people are saying to them they’re becoming fed-up.
The warm weather is proving too much of a temptation for people wanting to go outside.
