Police forces prepare for Easter weekend as many Swiss already caught vacationing
Cantonal police forces around the country are gearing up for the Easter weekend as they continue to warn people against travelling and meeting in large groups.
Last weekend several fines were issued as motorcyclists met on mountain passes, holiday makers went to Ticino despite calls for them not to, and a group of skiers caused police in Graubünden to close roads.
Some Swiss residents even went to Italy last weekend – which is forbidden. They were fined when they returned.
There are fears this long weekend could be more challenging as weather is set to be bright and sunny.
Some politicians say the government should consider a curfew. Others are calling for the closure of main roads to stop people moving too far from home.
So far, no decisions have been made, but it’s clear police forces will be ready.
