School children create fake news headline in bid to close down school

National News // March 5, 2020

It could be the case that some school children are using their computer and design skills to create fake news headlines in the hope schools will be closed.

One headline, which seems to be taken from the popular 20 minutes newspaper, says a student at a school in Zurich has tested positive for Covid 19.

The front page – which is most definitely fake – was circulated on a school WhatsApp group.

One principal of a Zurich cantonal school even found his name and a quote in the article. Andreas Niklaus says the article was shown to him by staff - who thought the truth was being kept from them. He assured them he never spoke to a journalist.

20 Minutes has confirmed the article is fake news and urges people to be wary of screenshots of newspaper articles. The paper says it reserves the right to take legal action against the authors.
