The plane was due to go to Gatwick on Sunday, but high winds made landing impossible.

It was already three hours late in taking off, the plane circled over London trying to land twice.

The pilot was then diverted to Lyon. On approach the aircraft had to declare an emergency as it had less than 30 minutes of fuel left. Air traffic control prioritized landing.

Passengers say crash vehicles lined the runway as it approached.

A British reality TV star was on the flight. Louise Thompson – who appears on the show ‘Made in Chelsea’ says she was terrified as the plane was being buffeted by the winds. Another passenger says some were in tears and everyone was frightened.
