US uges Switzerland to ditch Chinese 5G maker
The United States is urging Switzerland to stop using Chinese technology in its 5G telephone network.
The US says equipment made by Huawei is a security risk and could threaten intelligence sharing between the two countries.
The US embassy in Bern says using the equipment is an unacceptable security risk.
The phone operator Sunrise is most associated with Huawei but says a Swiss government data protection group – known as MELANI – says the issue is more to do with an ongoing trade dispute between China and the US and there’s no evidence the equipment is being used for anything other than what it’s designed to do.
