Château de Chillon one of 2019 most popular Swiss attractions
The Château de Chillon on the shores of Lake Geneva was again one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.
Visitors from around the world are keen to visit the historic site – it was the inspiration for the Byron poem, the Prisoner of Chillon. Byron’s self-carved name remains visible on a pillar in the dungeon.
Last year more than 431,000 visited. Most were Swiss – but Chinese, American and Korean tourists flocked to the castle.
It’s hoped this year will beat last year’s record. The Château has extended its opening hours and is opening a new café in May.
