Campaign against new Geneva car park forces issue to vote
Campaigners against a massive new underground car park in Geneva have collected double the number of signatures required to force the issue to a vote.
Only 3,200 names are required – but 6,400 have been submitted.
The city gave the go ahead to the new car park in November. Developers have agreed to create a large pedestrianized area on the surface after years of negotiation.
Those against the project say the car park will mean more traffic in the city, and flies in the face of investment in public transport – especially after the opening of the Léman Express.
