For years many food and drink companies send packages to those who are due to start basic training.

But a new trend of breweries sending free beer is causing the most consternation. Officers say alcoholic drinks are banned in the barracks and recruits can only drink during their time off.

Heineken, which owns several brands in Switzerland, says it sends out about 5 care packages a week. But a spokesman says it expects the recruits to follow army rules when it comes to having a drink.
