CGN buys electric ships to cut fuel consumption
The company which runs the boats on Lake Geneva – the CGN - has ordered two new ships which will be partly electrically powered.
The new vessels will be greener and will allow for more passengers and increased services.
The CGN says fuel consumption will drop by 40% and will be 30 times more efficient for a passenger to take the boat than a car.
The new boats will be assembled at the shipyard in Ouchy, but some elements will be pre-built in Poland.
The first sailings should be in 2022.
