Driver wins case against two vignette fines given within 15 minutes
A driver has won a battle against getting two fines for not having an autoroute vignette in the space of only 15 minutes – by the same police patrol.
26-year-old Fatlir Daku was driving his parents' car and he hadn’t realized it did not have a sticker. He was stopped near Basel on the A2 and given a CHF 200 fine at 2.45 on Sunday morning.
He asked the police where he could get a vignette at that time in the morning as he was heading to Schaffhausen. They told him the border post at Pratteln would have them. He set off, but only a few minutes later the same patrol stopped him and fined him again. After that he drove into Germany to continue his journey.
After complaining to Basel police, they agreed to cancel the second fine – admitting it was disproportionate.
