Same number of work permits to be issued to non-EU nationals
The government says it will issue the same amount of work permits next year to non-EU nationals as it did this year – a total of 8,500.
It also confirmed there will be 3,500 permits available for UK nationals in the case of a no-deal Brexit.
The number of permits issued was cut by 2,000 after the 2014 referendum which called on quotas on EU workers. But the cantons of Zurich, Geneva and Basel City complained as they have a large number of international companies.
The government reinstated the former level the following year.
