Former national football team manager dies
The former manager of the Swiss national football team Jakob Kühn has died at the age of 76 after a long illness.
Known as ‘Köbi’ the soccer star was highly respected. He spent all of his playing career with FC Zurich and played 63 times for the national team – including in the 1966 World Cup in England.
He ran the national team from 2001 to 2008 and took the team to the final stages of the Euro championships in 2004 and 2008 and the World Cup in 2006 for the first time.
In 2006 he was voted ‘Swiss of the Year’ by TV viewers.
