Plans to further automate parking tickets
Geneva is the only canton in the country that uses camera cars to spot parking violations – but officials want to take it a step further and have tickets issued by computer – with no human intervention.
Currently the cars take pictures of licence plates and the details of those that have over stayed are sent to agents who write the ticket.
It could be automated, with the cars simply sending tickets when the cameras spot an over-stayer.
But federal law needs to change to allow that. The parking foundation says there are moves in Bern to alter the regulations – that may take another two years.
