Switzerland voted onto UNESCO board
Switzerland has been voted onto the board of the UN’s science and culture body UNESCO.

It got the most votes of all the 58 new members at the general conference in Paris.
It’s the first time the country has been on the board since 2007. Switzerland says its priorities for the new session will be education and freedom of expression for scientists and journalists.
Switzerland has been a member of the UN body since 1949, despite not joining the main organization until 2002.
