Government may reverse decision to stop coffee stockpiling
Switzerland is reconsidering its decision to stop stockpiling coffee in case of an emergency.
Earlier this year the news the government keeps emergency coffee reserves made international headlines. Not many realized there were back up stores – until the government decided to end them.
Now, under pressure from the coffee industry, the final decision won’t be made until next year. This is being seen as a sign the government is preparing to backtrack and keep the reserves.
There is currently over 16,000 tonnes of coffee hidden away in the Alps in case of an emergency. It costs every person in Switzerland CHF 14 a year.
