Turkish politician causes crowd trouble in Solothurn
A visiting Turkish political leader triggered large protests in Grenchen in canton Solothurn yesterday.
The head of the Republican People’s Party, Canan Kaftancioglu, was due to give a speech to a local Turkish group.
Kurdish groups protested her presence – leading to the police to break up the crowd.
While the Republican People’s Party is in opposition to the Turkish government, they do support the recent military operation in northern Syria.
Solothurn police say their quick intervention prevented further escalation.
