Celebrity speculation as plane lands for emergency organ transplant
There’s press speculation as who may have needed an emergency organ transplant in Switzerland after a plane was given unusual permission to land at the Air Force base in Payerne on Wednesday night.
The flight from Spain arrived at 2am. The Air Force say opening the base for the one flight took major effort.
Normally such flights will use commercial airports. But Geneva was closed due to maintenance work and the weather unsuitable in Bern. Zurich and Basel were too far away.
Commentators suggest it could have been for a celebrity or a head of state. 2% of hospital patients in Switzerland are foreign and are paying privately for care. Health tourism is a major business for the sector.
