Green Party should have place on Federal Council, says Rytz
The head of the Swiss Green Party which made historic gains in Sunday’s parliamentary elections says there should be a place for the Greens on the Federal Council.
Regula Rytz says she will be holding discussions with her colleagues over the next few days, but told Swiss TV that its clear people want stronger environmental policies.
She says the current government is not suited to the new centre-left parliament. She believes one of the Liberal party’s seat on the top table is in danger – but she will wait until the full results for the Senate are determined. Many seats in the upper house are going to a second round.
The final make-up won’t be known until the end of November.
