New 'secretive' speed cameras rolled out in Haute-Savoie
A new generation of speed cameras are being rolled out on French roads close to the Swiss border.
France started using the new ‘Turret Cameras’ earlier in the year, near Paris.
The cameras are on a pole, which makes them harder to vandalise – which has been a serious problem in the last few months – and they don’t flash, so drivers will be unaware if they’ve been caught.
The department of Haute-Savoie has had the new cameras installed. Authorities point out already this year 51 people have been killed on its roads – and speed is the main reason.
