Zurich police use tear gas on March For Life riots
Zurich City police are being accused of overreacting during a demonstration on Saturday when tear gas was used, which then drifted into a park affecting many children.
The anti-abortion ‘March for Life’ turned violent when pro-choice groups confronted the demonstration. Rioting broke out in parts of the centre of the city – mainly around Limmatstrasse.
The police say two of their officers were injured by thrown objects and there were several arrests and garbage containers were set on fire.
Water cannon and tear gas was used to break up the riot. Some gas was blown into a park where children were playing, causing them to flee.
Parents say the police should’ve been more careful.
Zurich City police are apologizing – and say it was not the intention for the gas to spread widely.
