Ticino village demand secure border with Italy
A small village in canton Ticino is demanding Bern do more to secure the local border with Italy.
The mayor of Monteggio say they’re being hit by a constant crime wave – and blame those living in Italy.
The numbers are clear. One local shop has been robbed once a year for the past six years – the bank has been hit twice this year so far, an armored truck has been hijacked. The driver was found later in Italy. And ATMs keep being blown up.
There’ve also been several burglaries.
The mayor says the people have had enough. They want 24-hour border guards, thermal cameras and drones to secure the frontier.
