Swiss customs officers illegally spy in Austria
Swiss customs officers are being accused of conducting illegal observation operations in Austria.
The Blick newspaper is reporting Swiss agents would park near Austrian shops selling hemp products, note the licence plates of the cars and send them back to the local border posts.
Those cars would then be stopped if they entered Switzerland.
Certain hemp products are legal in Austria, but not in Switzerland.
The paper says the operations would not have had the approval of Austrian authorities as it would have meant staking out legal businesses.
A Federal Customs Administration spokesman admits the legal grey area and says any activities have been stopped.
